Slow Drive Tour Overview
If you’re visiting Lago di Garda in northern Italy, the best way to explore the area is on a slow drive tour in a vintage Alfa Romeo Spider convertible. Trust me…you’ll LOVE it.
Getting to the Slow Drive Tour Office
The Slow Drive Tour office is in Padenghe sul Garda, which is only a 10 minute drive from Desenzano, which has a train station. You can either take a bus or taxi, and if you’re brave and looking for some exercise, you can walk there!
The Experience
The Slow Drive Tour is an experience in which you’ll have your pick of various classic cars from Alfa Romeos to Fiats, Volkswagens, Porsches, and more. You’ll be the driver in a caravan of vehicles led by a guide, so make sure you’re able to drive a manual because none of the cars are automatic (I was lucky that the owner let me ride as a passenger with the tour guide).
The tour will kick off cruising through Desenzano and then into the hills. You’ll pass by vineyards before stopping at the Tower of San Martino della Battaglia followed by a longer stop in Borghetto sul Mincio, a picturesque little village on a river. Here you can walk around and grab a gelato.
The tour continues with several more scenic stops, showing off the beauty of the Morainic Hills of Garda and its castles. It’s 3.5 hours of absolute relaxation.
Takeaway
Going on a slow drive tour around Lago di Garda in a vintage car is such a fantastic and unique way to see the area. If you’re looking to explore the area on your own, you can also rent one of the vintage cars without the tour.
