Organic Cooking Class Overview

If you’re in Florence and you want to escape the city, go to take an organic cooking class in Tuscany. Located just a short drive away in the Florentine hills, you’ll learn how to make pasta at the countryside home of a lovely woman named Joana.

Getting to the Cooking Class

You can reach Joana’s home by car. If you don’t have one, Joana will meet you at Porta Romana Square in Florence and drive you.

The Experience

From the moment we got outside of the city and rode through the hills, I felt completely relaxed. Nature surrounded us on the ride, but I wasn’t expecting the beauty of what awaited us.

Joana’s home is located high on a hill overlooking the Tuscan countryside. The house itself is classic and surrounded by olive trees, rosemary, a peach tree, and so much more.

We began by making a snack of homemade crackers, flavored with hand-picked rosemary and sea salt. We paired the crackers with cheese, pear, and white wine. While Joana prepped the kitchen for pasta-making, our small group shared a bottle of wine and ate our aperitivo in the yard among the olive trees as the sun began to set. Doesn’t that sound like a scene straight out of “Under the Tuscan Sun”?! That’s what it felt like.

Next, we made simple pasta, using a pasta maker to flatten the dough and cut it. This was paired with a pomodoro sauce. We enjoyed our dinner by candlelight at Joana’s outdoor table under a pergola and the Tuscan stars. We finished with a dessert, before getting a ride back to the city.

Takeaway

If you want a relaxing organic cooking experience in the Tuscany countryside, you’ll love taking this class with Joana. It’s the perfect way to escape the city and enjoy a quiet evening outside with fantastic food.
