Croissant Making Class Overview

If you want a true French culinary experience, you need to take a croissant making class in Paris. Maison Fleuret features one that not only has you baking croissants, but also my favorite pastry…pain au chocolat!

Getting to Maison Fleuret

Maison Fleuret is located in an adorable courtyard in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. It’s not far from the well-known Café de Flore. You can take the metro, a taxi, or walk, depending on where you’re located.

The Experience

The experience began by taking pre-made dough (it has to rest for hours so a group before us made it), rolling it out and cutting it into triangles for croissants and rectangles for pain au chocolat.

We had so much fun learning the process for rolling the dough into each shape.  There was no shortage of butter as we coated the pastries before putting them into the oven.

While we waited for them to bake, we learned how to make the dough, which would be used for the next group after it had time to rest.  It’s remarkable how many layers of butter are created in the dough for a perfect croissant.  It was not easy work!

Finally, when our masterpieces were ready, we got to eat them.  The second I bit into the croissant, I could have melted onto the floor along with the butter.  Hands down, it was the best croissant I’ve ever had, and I’m not just saying that because I made it.

Next, I devoured my favorite French pastry, the pain au chocolat, in record time.  It didn’t stand a chance with me.  It was warm, buttery, chocolatey, and absolutely scrumptious.  I could have eaten all four of my creations right away, but I had to force myself to save two of them for later.

Our pastry chef was so knowledgeable and absolutely wonderful in helping us throughout the class.  I had so much fun!

Takeaway

If you’re looking for a unique way to experience French culture, I highly recommend booking a croissant making class with Maison Fleuret (or you can try their macaron class!). You may leave with a ton of calories consumed, but I promise it will have been worth it.
