Italian Cooking Class Overview

If you’re visiting Sorrento, you absolutely have to head 15 minutes to Vico Equense and book this amazing Italian cooking class with a view of the coast.

Getting to Cristiano's House

Vico Equense is a short train ride (only 5 stops) from Sorrento. I let the host, Cristiano, know that I would be traveling by myself on the train and he arranged to have his mom pick me up from the train station. You can also get a taxi or driver to take you there and/or back to where you’re staying. I promise it’s worth it!

If you're staying in Sorrento, you'll get the train in Sorrento and take it to Vico Equense (it should be the fifth stop, but check the schedules below).  Find the train schedules here:

The Experience

From the moment I walked into Cristiano’s home, I was awestruck by the view. Not only is the house beautiful itself, but the best part is the outdoor kitchen where the entire experience takes place.

The first thing you’ll do is put on an apron and gigantic chef’s hat and meet the others you’ll be cooking with. I was with a fantastic group of strangers who quickly became friends for the evening.

We began with making coffee and then preparing dessert, which would need to be refrigerated while we started working on the hot items. We each made our own serving of tiramisu in an adorable ceramic boat that we wrote our names on. They looked so cute!

The entire process was fast-paced and each person was busy working simultaneously. While I was stirring sauce, others were cutting and drying out the eggplant. While some were frying the eggplant, others were preparing the potatoes for the gnocchi.

Cristiano was a fabulous host, getting all of us involved with the food and each other. He was so funny and personable and really created a fun atmosphere. When it was finally time to eat, we sat at a long table overlooking the sea and the stars. Everything we had made tasted so delicious and I had to pinch myself that I was there.

Takeaway

If you want a one-of-a-kind, interactive cooking experience that you can enjoy with the entire family, friends, a significant other, or even alone (like I did), you absolutely have to book this class with Cristiano. The only regret you’ll have is that you didn’t visit and do this sooner.
